The Day I volunteered for ARMY
I put off writing my first blog post and creating a blog because I couldn't think of a cool topic. Well, a topic I thought people reading would think is cool.
But as I am not sure what is cool anymore, whilst being in the middle of a pandemic.
For a while, I had been getting into a funk. The freedom to do what I liked was causing me stress and upping my anxiety and I had stopped my pills so I was spiralling.
I needed something to inspire me, to get me to smile and to push forward but couldn't find anything that brought me any joy. I am not depressed, I know what that is like and I am not letting myself go there again but no matter what I did I couldn't shake off this cloud that gradually got darker and rained occasionally.
Today things changed, in fact, my whole world changed.
I figured what the hell, it's my birthday month and it's time to stop procrastinating. So I sat down in front of the computer and went to Youtube to see if anything was interesting and new.
Lo, and behold my new favourite acapella group Voiceplay released a new collaboration- Butter by BTS. Hmm...catchy. Groovy. Shoulder popping!
I normally recognise the artist/s they cover but this time I was confused. BTS? What is this BTS and if the cover is that good, what does the original sound like?
Four hours later...
I am now part of ARMY, the international fan base for this K-Pop ( Korean Pop) group that consists of seven wonderful young men. I know I sound like an elderly lady talking about her grandsons, but I honestly am not attracted to them, I just absolutely love them!
Who would have thought that the discovery of this group would bring back my spark? Me, a geek that was listening to The Song of Beren and LĂșthien by Clamavi De Profundis for two weeks straight a few days ago.
And I completely understand that I probably sound crazy and you're rolling your eyes reading this but I found my sunshine. So let me be.
Listening to their songs, watching endless videos and interviews and trying to mimic their dance moves has made me brighter than I have been in a while. I've learnt that whatever makes me happy should be celebrated.
Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, V and Jungkook are my current obsessions and with the help of a very awesome friend, I intend to fall deeper into the rabbit hole of K-pop in the weeks to come.
Not a bad start to July, my birthday month and my writing career.
I'm in the ARMy now, whoa oh oh I'm in the ARMY. Now.
Thank you for sharing this first step in what will, no-doubt, be a wonderfully entertaining tornado ride! Finding the small happys are so important these days. Looking forward to the next installment! :-D
